You may (or may not) remember back in October, I went on one of those Worldwide Photo Walks (WWPW) in Smithfield, VA. Well now (and over the next few weeks) I'm going to post a few more pics from that. Here is the first one...looking straight down on some marsh grass. I know you are disappointed that I didn't come through with any turkey pictures. Sorry.

And I think this is the last of the buildings fences and shadows (and the odd other thing) at night series. I'll see if I can find a picture of a turkey for Thanksgiving.

It seems this has become less of a series of shadows at night and more of buildings/houses at night. Here is another one of those.

Ok...I guess THIS is my Halloween post. An oldie but a goodie.

I guess this is my Halloween post. People (well at least one person) says they see a ghost here. So that makes it creepy. Happy Halloween!

Giant weeds are creepy, as are the things hidden in them waiting to get you as soon as the light you just blinded them with shuts off.

Because old, dark buildings at night are creepy, right?

I don't guess this is really creepy, but this is my blog and I can do whatever I want.

Not that anyone is interested...but this is what that cemetery shot looked like when I shot it.

This is an old cemetery. Trust me. It was REALLY dark, but I like the effect that "pushing" my little camera phone gives. It is remarkably similar to film in that respect.

I interrupt the semi-creepy shadow-y nighttime shots for this post. As I am sure you were aware, Saturday was the 7th annual Worldwide Photowalk. This year we (my lovely wife and I) chose the walk in Smithfield, VA. Below are a few of the photographs I took on the walk. I took a LOT more and maybe I'll post some of those in the future.

Oddly enough (or not) this is the one shot that had the least (as in practically none) post-processing done to it. The rest of these were pretty heavily processed.

Ok, I now return you to the regularly scheduled semi-creepy shadow-y nighttime shots...

Is this creepy? I don't know. Very little post-processing done. This is pretty much what this looked like. Thanks for not cleaning your light fixtures, CW!

Since it is getting close to Halloween, I thought I'd post some semi-creepy photos. Shooting at night makes it easier to get creepy shots. Here is the first one.

Not technically one of my 'shadows' pics, although there ARE shadows there (and, I just noticed, my feet). It was taken at night and I then went nuts on the post-processing.

This is just like Monday's post. But different.

Yep...more shadows at night with colors and all.

Here is another of those shadow pics I was talking about...this one being much more reminiscent of my early work, back in the days before all this digital mumbo-jumbo when we had to use stuff called film. And we processed it ourselves. Uphill. Both ways. In the snow. And we liked it.

Those who have followed my career from the early days know that I have always been drawn to night photography. In particular shadows at night, So I'll be posting some of my newer stuff over the next few weeks,  I generally work in black & white with these shadow pics, but I did a few color ones recently, here is one of them.

I went to the beach and all I got was this accidental picture of some steps.

I may or may not be on vacation in an undisclosed beach-like location. And yes, I know it has been over a month since my last post, but that has nothing to do with anything.

I don't know if this is really abstract, but occasionally I'll take a quick look at it and can't immediately figure out what it is...so I'm calling it an abstract. My blog, my rules.

Here is a nice colorful photo. Of what, I am not sure. It was shot a long time ago when I was in school photographing crystals through a microscope, I think this is just some kind of happy accident involving a small air bubble and the liquid I was trying to grow crystals in. The colors come from the cross-polarized light. 

There is at least one ghost in this photo. Depending on the brightness/contrast settings on your screen, you may not see any, but trust me...there is at least one.

A Mollie original. There are all kinds of crazy things going on in her photo...the longer you stare at it the more things you will think you see.

I hope everyone enjoyed my week off...funny thing is, this week I really am off! I'll spare you the Moldy-oldie Monday this week...although this is relatively old and the artist has since passed away. This was one of Magnum's artsier photos. Unlike Mollie, most of his photos were clear and obvious what they were, but here he stepped into the world of abstractism. And so, this week I will "focus" on some of my more abstract photos.

It's Friday. I'm lazy. (those are not necessarily related statements)  So, same boat, different light.

The stern of a dugout canoe. This was shot at the same time as that other canoe. No, not that one, the one I did the "triptych" of. I shot two boats that day...some in large format black & white and some w/ my DSLR. This is one of the black & white shots, duh!

This was from my first attempt at making a pinhole lens for my DSLR and was taken on my 2011 Photowalk in Colonial Williamsburg.  While it did succeed in capturing images, it's sharpness was far less than I had hoped. Still it has a quaint, early-photography look to it without any crazy filters being applied in Photoshop. I think all I did was adjust the contrast and desaturate and tone it.

I know, at first glance this looks like an old-timey photo from the mid to late 19th century. Ha! Nope. It was shot just recently with a highfalutin digital camera and had some nifty filters applied.

Moldy oldie Monday again (even if it is almost Tuesday). If you remember last weeks MOM then you already know what this is. If you don't remember, now is your chance to go back and see it again (or maybe for the first time). Go ahead...I'll wait.  Ok, great, now you know what this is! Yay for you!

It's Friday, so you know what that means.  Me either. Here's a photo (well a series, I guess) of a giant tortoise at the Norfolk Zoo.

According to Google, this photo has been posted before...in March of this year (so says the almighty Google), but I'll be darned if I can find where I might have posted it. So forgive me if this is old news. I like this photo, so I'm posting it (again, apparently). It is of the sunrise one early morning on or around March 14, 2014. The grid in the sky is obviously the holodeck-like thing that draws the sky for us so we can pretend we are on a planet in space and not in the snow globe of a race of giants.
